The 7 Best Robot Mops of 2024, Tested and Reviewed

Clean your floors at the press of a button

Similar to their robot vacuum cousins, robot mops are investment pieces—but, we wanted to get a feel for how they work and make cleaning a hands-off experience so we have tested dozens in The Lab and at home since 2022. To date, we’ve tested over 40 robot models, so we are certainly not strangers to their setup process, effectiveness, noise level (especially when they're emptying into a base), maneuverability, and overall value. While each robot mop that we recommend below has proven itself to be efficient and effective, we've identified key categories to help you choose what's best for your household.

Again, similar to robot vacuums, many robot mops are so hands-off that you can set them to run in your absence, so you can come home to sparkling clean floors. Many machines have both mop and vacuum settings for sprucing up hardwood floors and carpets—only one pick on our list, the Bissell ReadyClean A3 Robotic Mop, is the exception to this, featuring just mop settings.

But, these machines are an investment. Our favorites range in price from $600 up to $1,600, and while we did test models in the $250 to $400 range, their performance wasn’t up to par. The robot mop you land on might still have some quirks, but it’ll make your life easier and give you the clean floors you dreamed of regularly at just the push of a button. "It won't be perfect, but they’re a huge convenience and can be a big help with household chores," stresses Becky Rapinchuk, a member of The Spruce's Cleaning Review Board and founder of Clean Mama.

Editor's Note: This review was revised in January 2024 with updated testing findings.

What We Like
  • Easy to use

  • Performs consistently well on spills and food messes

  • Navigates well around furniture and floor ridges

  • Minimal hair tangle compared to other vacuums

What We Don't Like
  • Learning the app takes some trial and error

  • Doesn’t clean rugs as well when mop pads are attached

If you’ve ever seen a small child, you know the messes that can ensue. Well, the Ecovacs T10 Omni is up for the challenge—and then some. In a busy home with a pet and young child, we estimate that we got roughly 30 minutes back each day thanks to its performance on everyday messes and spills. And by “everyday messes,” we’re not just talking about a few smudges here and there—we mean Cheerio crumbs, yogurt drips, and squashed berries that rain down from a toddler’s eating area.

In other words, both the vacuum and mop settings on the T10 Omni work really well at cleaning floors. The setup process can be quick and easy if you’re sticking to just downloading the app and mapping your home. However, to really dig into the features—like dividing your space into zones—it takes a bit of exploration (and trial and error) to get familiar with the app. Thankfully, once you learn the app and the commands, you’ll be good to go and start getting hours back in your week, like us. We leaned mostly on the area cleaning function that allowed us to prioritize the kitchen, since we were targeting a few essential zones for messes. However, the scheduling system is intuitive too, so no matter your preferences, you’ll find it easy to set up a routine that works for you.

Using this robot mop so frequently meant we had to keep a close eye on both the clean and the dirty water levels, and maintenance became part of our daily routine. The vacuum, on the other hand, features a self-empty mechanism, which sends the dry dirt and grime collected into the tower storage bin. This means you can go weeks in between emptying it (we did!).

Now, we do want to be clear that we’re not so blinded by our love for this machine that we didn’t identify a few flaws. One quirk we discovered was that the mop pads can affect its performance on carpet and rugs, so you will want to remove them if you’re using the vacuum mode. Still, we are overall pleased with the T10 Omni and it’s become invaluable to our cleaning routine.

How It Performed Long-Term

We stand by our initial review, though we have now used the Ecovacs T10 Omni often enough that, after just under six months of usage, we noticed a slight dip in performance. Shortly after, we got a notification on the app to replace the filters and mop heads. Once we did so, performance went back to normal, but users should keep in mind that, like a car or other advanced machine, there is some ongoing maintenance required.

What We Like
  • D-shaped design reaches into corners

  • Quiet operation

  • Automatically changes mop pads

What We Don't Like
  • Struggles going over ledges between rooms

  • Minor streaks noticeable in bright light

The Bissell ReadyClean A3 Robotic Mop is just what the name entails—a robotic mop and dry sweeper, without vacuuming capabilities. If that's what you're looking for, it's a robust model that performs really well. The first time we ran this robot mop in a new apartment, it went through four of its included reusable mop pads, a testament to its efficiency (and the cleaning of the previous tenants, but that’s a different story). Conveniently, up to 10 pads can be stored in the docking station, so the robot will dock itself, swap them out, and continue cleaning in one fell swoop (the ability to change pads is an impressive feature not offered by any of our other picks).

The setup process is smooth and simple, and the app is a cinch to use. All of the important functions are no more than two menu levels deep, and are intuitive to find. Once the machine was running (it takes about four hours to charge), it not only impressed us with its cleaning capabilities, but its quiet and smooth operation, too. We also see the unique D-shaped design as an advantage, because it reaches spaces that can be tougher for traditional round machines, including corners and along baseboards.

After use, floors look clean and shiny, although sunlight did reveal a few streaks on ours. One small issue during testing was that this robot didn't make it over ledges that separated rooms. Still, if you're seeking a robot mop and a robot mop only, this one is hard to beat.

How It Performed Long-Term

This robot mop spends roughly four hours cleaning a 1,200-square foot apartment, which is a testament to both how thorough it is and how strong the battery life is. We have found a groove with vacuuming up larger debris prior to using this mop, leaving it to tackle the remaining dirt, dust, and even winter slush. While you’ll still want to keep a vacuum cleaner (or separate robot vacuum) on hand for dry messes, the Bissell ReadyClean A3 Robotic Mop is a great partner to have for hands-off scrubbing and scouring.

What We Like
  • QR code for app downloading

  • Good obstacle avoidance

  • Great at picking up sticky spills

What We Don't Like
  • Brushes must be cleaned after mopping

  • Can only use water in the tank

The Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Robot Vacuum and Mop boasts powerful vacuum and smart mop capabilities at a very reasonable price. After months of testing, it’s proven to be one of our all-time favorite cleaning machines. When you’re getting started with the N8+, the app setup process is very easy. A QR code leads you right to the app for downloading, and there's simple step-by-step guidance to begin mapping your home's layout.

This machine expertly navigates past couches and tables, displaying the effective programming that keeps baseboards and furniture safe from unnecessary robot mop bumps and run-ins. It also showed reasonable prowess with obstacle avoidance in our experience; as in, it’s good but not perfect. It’ll miss larger objects like socks, but it does still try to grab smaller items like USB cords, so you’ll want to stay on top of any extra floor clutter.

Notably, the N8+ impressively mops up coffee and syrup spills, while only leaving a little residue behind. The only major mopping drawback we found with the N8+ is that you can't use your own cleaning solution in the water tank. Ecovacs recommends using only water to prevent clogging. Also, while many features of this vacuum-mop combo involve hands-free cleaning, you have to manually clean the scrub brushes after mopping. Still, these feel like small inconveniences for an otherwise impressive combo vacuum. Plus, when it comes to value, this is an option that frequently goes on sale, so keep an eye out for discounts.

How It Performed Long-Term

We’re big fans of the N8+, and long-term testing has confirmed that this is a reliable, effective robot vacuum and mop. We rely on it multiple times a week to clean hard floors and vacuum carpets, and we’ve had no major issues (short of one charging-related hiccup that was a simple fix).

What We Like
  • Variety of self-directed functions

  • Versatile cleaning modes

  • Voice control

  • Can map up to four levels

What We Don't Like
  • Some connectivity issues during app setup

  • Bumped into glass furniture

To put it simply, the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is a high-performing, smart appliance with lots of bells and whistles. Not only does it self-empty, but it’s programmed to manage a number of maintenance tasks that other machines require users to handle manually, including self-drying, self-emptying, self-refilling, self-cleaning, and even auto mop-washing (if you’ve ever dreaded rinsing off a traditional mop, you’re off the hook with this machine). On top of these programmed functions, it’s great with regular cleaning and expertly handles light food messes, daily dust, and more.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a variety of cleaning modes, from quiet and light settings to more powerful deep clean options, and it easily maneuvers between hard flooring and carpet alike. You can even control it with voice controls, speaking your commands and sending it to work if you have a smart home hub such as Amazon Alexa.

The setup process wasn’t entirely flawless since we did have a few issues with getting the S8 Pro Ultra connected to Wi-Fi. Thankfully, once we were online, the instructions were smooth and easy to follow. The one other quirk we encountered is that it did, on occasion, bump into furniture, but not hard enough for damage. Otherwise, this is a high-end cleaning machine with a ton of hands-off features compared to its competition.

How It Performed Long-Term

We’ve been using this robot mop and vacuum for six months. We did find that some hair got caught in the rollers, but we would equate fixing it to clearing a paper jam in a printer. We’ve also been pleased with the battery life, too, and haven’t seen any drops or dips in performance.

Tip from The Lab

If your robot mop has a self-empty feature, you can plan on it being the loudest part of the cleaning routine. We observed this consistently among the models we tested, so plan accordingly when selecting a spot for your base.

What We Like
  • Spot clean mode

  • Reusable mop pads

  • HEPA filter

What We Don't Like
  • Could reach corners better

  • Mop mode does not self-empty

Because messes of food, fur, mud, and more aren't uncommon for pet owners, we wanted to be sure to recommend a versatile robot mop that's up for the challenge. Enter the Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop, which is reliable and efficient, and great for both daily maintenance and touch-ups. We especially love the spot clean mode, which allows you to use the app to identify a 3-foot by 3-foot box in need of extra cleaning. It’s ideal for high-traffic areas (like where your pet runs in from outside, or right next to the food bowl) and for spills and other areas that need extra attention. The vacuum function of this combo machine also has a HEPA filter, which captures fur, dander, and other small allergens down to 0.3 microns.

The mopping results from the Shark AI Ultra rival a steam mop, only with far less hands-on effort required. This robot mop also boasts other features that elevate the overall user experience, like CleanEdge Technology which is a combination of air and corner recognition that blasts away debris in tight areas. The technology does still leave some debris behind, but corners are a notorious challenge for robot vacuums and mops, so we’re not expecting total perfection. We also like that this pick includes reusable mop pads, a perk for anyone who likes to be mindful of waste (and who doesn’t like running out).

One area of note is that we would prefer to see a self-empty feature with the mop setting, too. Still, this is a thoughtful machine with reliable, user-friendly programming, convenient scheduling, and overall impressive cleaning abilities. We give it two thumbs (and paws!) up.

How It Performed Long-Term

The Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop is doing great after six months of regular usage. We’ve set it for daily cleaning and maintenance, and it’s made a marked difference in our cleaning routine. The battery life and suction power have stayed consistent throughout the duration of testing, too.

What We Like
  • Great obstacle avoidance

  • Gives you maintenance reminders

  • Manages pet hair well

What We Don't Like
  • Navigation seemed affected when switching modes

The Yeedi Mop Station Pro Robot Vacuum and Mop impresses with its smooth maneuverability and efficient cleaning capabilities. It's a great choice if you'd like to be able to trust your robot mop to run regardless of whether you've had a chance to pick up any loose toys or shoes—or wake any snoozing pets! If you’re busy, or you’ve been bothered by the extra tidying required for some robot vacuums and mops, you’ll likely be especially pleased.

The mop mode works well for daily cleaning and upkeep, and we see it suiting homes that would use it for regular maintenance, as opposed to pinch-hitting for spills and big messes. In other words, you probably wouldn't want to send this robot in after a carton of milk spills on the laminate kitchen floor, or when the mudroom floor gets especially muddy. But, for daily cleaning sessions around your home, it's a solid choice. In particular, thanks to its vacuum and mop functions, it can keep up in a home with shedding pets.

After it finishes a mopping session, the machine will self-empty your dirty mop water into the tower, which we like. But, heads up: it doesn't self-empty the dust bin. This wasn't a big deal to us, since its larger capacity (750 milliliters, or 25 ounces) can hold weeks’ worth of dust and debris. And, the machine will prompt you in the app to empty it when necessary, so you don't have to think about it until you get reminded (as a reminder, if you want a machine with plenty of self-automated features, then the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is our recommendation).

We did observe that, when in spot mode, this robot mop seemed to struggle to get back to its base, and we had to manually take it back. While that wasn't ideal, it felt like a minor inconvenience within an overall reliable, high-performing machine.

What We Like
  • Cleans debris of varying sizes

  • Quiet operation

  • Drying feature

What We Don't Like
  • Some confusion during app setup

  • Doesn't self-empty

The Narwal Freo Robot Vacuum and Mop is, by most definitions, an investment. But after testing this machine and seeing how precisely it navigates around obstacles, and how efficiently it mops and vacuums, we’re sold. It easily handles small dust and debris, and never tried to pick up anything that led to damage in our testing. It's subtle while operating and is among the quietest robot vacuums we've tried.

After it’s done mopping, floors dry quickly thanks to its drying feature. It’s cleverly programmed to work inward from the perimeter of the room, so by the time it reaches the middle, the outer edges are already dry. When testing, we tried it in a home with dark wood floors, which are not forgiving when it comes to hiding dirt and grime. It made a noticeable difference in how clean and shiny the floors looked, and the battery had no trouble managing the entire main floor of the house on a regular basis.

As impressive as the Narwal Freo is, it's worth noting that the setup process wasn't entirely intuitive, and getting the robot to connect to the app wasn't easy. We discovered the app has to be on the entire time during the setup. Once we worked through the issue and connected with customer service, the mapping and scheduling turned out to be smooth. Other potential hiccups for buyers might include the lack of self-emptying (there's a one-touch button process instead) and the ongoing cost of refill solutions. Still, this machine's impressive performance and effective features don’t disappoint.

How It Performed Long-Term

We still happily recommend the Narwal Freo. We’re pleased with its performance after six months of testing. The cleaning power remains great, and the only areas of maintenance are small and expected, like refilling the tank and washing the mop pads.

Final Verdict

The best overall robot mop is the ECOVACS T10 OMNI Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo, because it is a powerful, user-friendly machine that cleans up messes smoothly and easily. If you're looking for a robot mop without a vacuuming feature, we suggest the Bissell ReadyClean A3 Robotic Mop, our best value pick. This basic robot mop uses a jet spray to target spills and leaves your floors spotless.

Other Options We Tested

We also tested the following products and were impressed by their performance and features, though they featured a few too many flaws to earn a spot on our above list.

Ecovacs Deebot T10 Plus

Ecovacs Deebot T10 Plus Robotic Vacuum and Mop

Amazon

There's a lot to like about the Deebot T10 Plus (not to be confused with the Deebot T10 Omni, our best overall pick). It performed well overall and has attractive features like smart mapping and a scrubbing mop head. Long-term testing showed us that its navigation and obstacle avoidance programming were prone to minor issues, though. It would crumple rugs and struggle with door thresholds. For the price point, we think you can find a pick that performs more consistently.

ILife A11 Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo

ILife A11 Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo

Amazon

As one of the more budget-friendly combo robots available, we were optimistic about the ILife A11. Unfortunately, we had consistent, ongoing struggles with using this robot’s app (although the included remote was a solid substitute), and the suction and cleaning weren't strong. In fact, at one point, the robot mop made an orange juice spill into an even bigger mess. We were left feeling like a regular vacuum and manual mop would be better.

How We Tested the Robot Mops

We've purchased and tested over 40 robot vacuums and vacuum-mop hybrids in The Lab and at home. During our lab testing, we put robot mops to the test to rate certain attributes, and also compare them to their competition.

  • We unbox and assemble each appliance and rate the ease of setup for each robot vacuum-mop hybrid model. If an app is required for programming, we install that too, and take into account how user-friendly the process is.
  • Once setup is complete, we test the effectiveness of its mopping features by spilling syrup and coffee on our testing floors, setting a two-minute timer, and letting the robot mop clean. After two minutes, we evaluate if any sticky residue is left behind.
  • As the robot vacuum-mop is operating, we use a decibel reader to assess the noise level.
  • We also take note of any special features included, such as obstacle avoidance or smart mapping, that our home testers further dive into later on.
  • Then we score each model on maneuverability, as the robot mops navigate their way through our living room obstacle course of couches and coffee tables. If object avoidance is an advertised feature, we test it by putting a USB cord, sock, and chocolate pudding on the floor, and then we take note of whether it successfully avoids those obstacles.
  • In addition, we note the ease of emptying each device's dust bin and reservoir. When the robot mop has a self-empty feature, we test that out too, and record additional observations.
  • We also look at the overall value of the robot mop, based on the price, our experience, and its features.

What to Look for in a Robot Mop

Battery Life

A long-lasting battery will ensure your robot can get cleaning jobs done in a reasonable time frame (otherwise, it'll need to stop to recharge, which can add hours to its task). Though, consider your space before springing for the largest battery on the market. If you have a larger home, you may want to ensure that you’re selecting a model with a lengthy battery life, but if your home is smaller, or you only have a few rooms with hard floors, then something with a shorter battery life may still suit you. Among our picks, battery life ranges from 110 minutes (the  Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Vacuum & Mop Robot, our best value pick) up to 210 minutes (a pick we also like, the Narwal Freo Self Mop Clean Robot).

Smart Mapping

Multi-room smart mapping helps you create a floor plan for each of your rooms. All of our robot mop and hybrid vacuum recommendations incorporate this technology. This mapping feature is important because it provides a consistently efficient blueprint for the robot. For instance, if your kitchen has laminate flooring, but your living room is fully carpeted, the robot mop knows to travel to your kitchen to begin its cleaning while avoiding the living room. If you choose a robot mop without this function, it may take longer to clean every room as it zig-zags its way around the floor.

FAQ
  • What type of cleaning solution do robot mops use?

Most robot mops recommend their brand-specific cleaning solutions. Though it's possible to use a DIY solution, doing so may mess with the internal hardware of the mop and may void its warranty. You can also find some options (like our best value pick, the Ecovacs Deebot N8+ Vacuum & Mop Robot) that use just water.

One thing to note, regardless of the cleaning solution, is the potential for excess liquid during mopping cycles. "Robot mops need to be monitored and tend to get a little too much water on the floors," says Becky Rapinchuk, a member of The Spruce's Cleaning Review Board and the founder of Clean Mama. "You might need to follow behind with a towel." While we were satisfied with the performance of all of our picks in this area, it’s always a possibility.

  • How do robot vacuums and mops work?

Robot vacuums clean the same way regular vacuums do—with a series of brushes that lift dirt from the floor and suck it up into a dust bin or bag. On the other hand, robot mops disperse a cleaning solution across the floor and scrub it off with attached pads or brushes. Both robots move using sensors that detect space, cliffs, and obstacles.

  • How do you clean a robot mop?

The best way to clean a robot mop is by following the manufacturer's instructions, as many robots are made differently than others. But generally, you'll empty the water or dust tank, rinse it out, and let it dry. You may also need to manually clean the bristle brushes and mopping pads with gentle soap and water.
